4th Degree Candidates,

Congratulations on getting this far in your Martial Arts Journey.  Testing for 4th Degree is a huge accomplishment.  Please review the following info and please let us know if you have any questions:

In order to have authentic and accredited ranks in ULMAA, these standards have been developed to insure safety, challenge, and structure for high ranking ULMAA Students.

Below are official guidelines on becoming a ULMAA Accredited 3rd-5th Degree Black Belt:

-Must meet or exceed all requirements for rank set forth in the ULMAA Student Handbook.

-Must meet or exceed minimum age for rank:

-3rd Degree L1: 10 years old

-3rd Degree L2: 12 years old

-3rd Degree L3: 14 years old

-4th Degree L1: 17 years old

-4th Degree L2: 20 years old

-5th Degree: 24 years old

Testing will consist of:

3rd degrees: 3 Elite level forms, four 90 second sparring rounds, 3 self defense skills (Starting 2019), board breaking (See diagram)

4th degrees: 4 Elite level forms, four 90 second sparring rounds, 4 self defense skills (Starting 2019), board breaking (See diagram)

5th degrees: 5 Elite level forms, four 90 second sparring rounds, 5 self defense skills (Starting 2019), board breaking (See diagram)

-Students will all be judged based on the Official ULMAA Testing guidelines and scoring sheet.

-Must pass pre-test at their own training center consisting of:

•Demonstrating their testing forms, sparring rounds, self defense skills and board breaks (on wood or plastic boards)

•Students must get 100% of the sequencing of the forms correct for the pre-test.

•Students can pre-test up to 3 times before a high rank testing.

NOTE: As of January 1, 2019, High rank candidates will be required to pass the ULMAA PT Fit Test.  That includes a 1.5 mile run, push ups as well as sit ups.  You can see a sample of that PT Test here:

NOTE: Remember that the ULMAA High Rank Testing does not have a re-test option.  If you happen to not pass your high rank test, you will have to train hard and test at the next available high rank testing.
